Gear Up For Hawks Basketball

Latest Hawks Moves Signal the End for Bibby

When the Hawks drafted a point guard (Jeff Teague from Wake Forest), I had to roll my eyes and think “Oh no, they’re trying to make up for drafting Marvin Williams instead of Chris Paul a couple of years ago by getting as many point guards as they can.”

But then I remembered that the Billy Knight era is over and waited for something else to happen. Sure enough it did when the Hawks acquired Jamal Crawford from the Warriors for PGs Acie Law IV and Speedy Claxton.

I welcome Jamal Crawford. He averages double figures and 4 assists a game. He’ll be a good replacement for Bibby. More on that in a moment.

I’m gonna miss Acie Law only because he never got a chance to prove himself in the you’re-not-a-veteran-so-i’m-not-going-to-play you style of roster management employed by coach Mike Woodson. Hopefully, Law will get his chance with the Warriors.

Speedy Claxton, the other player being shipped to Oakland, was a mistake from the beginning for the Hawks and I’m not gonna waste my time on writing about him.

Now, what about Bibby? He is a free agent and this the deal probably signals that the Hawks are not gonna re-sign him. They’ll turn the ball over (not literally) to Crawford while grooming Teague to be the next Doc Rivers for the franchise.

I’m excited about these moves and I can’t wait for the season to begin.
