The Atlanta Hawks are perfect at home this season. Undefeated. No losses.
The Hawks are also beating opponents by an average of 15 points per game, according to the people at SportSouth.
So, Hawk fans probably felt pretty good about the Houston Rockets coming to town. Yes, the Rockets are not as potent as they once were (7-5 entering the Atlanta game, 4-3 on the road), but as the Bobcats can tell you, if you take a team for granted, they will beat you.
So this game started out like other Hawk games this year: Houston took a small lead, the Hawks turn the ball over early , but in the back of your mind, you probably thought “Ok, time to come back and blow this team off the court.”
Well, the Hawks did come back, but Houston kept hanging around. They were some bright spots: Marvin Williams had 20 points by halftime and the Hawks were out rebounding Houston.
But, Al Horford only had 8 points entering the fourth quarter (he finished with 17), Josh Smith almost fouled out (Horford did foul out) and Mike Bibby had 7 points and 2 assists to Joe Johnson’s 9 assists. How does a guy who is not considered a point guard (Johnson) have more assists than a guy who is your starting PG (Bibby)?
Thinks got a little dicey when Houston went on a 11-1 run late in the fourth quarter to tie. But not to worry, Hawk fans. Great defense, like in past games prevailed.
So, the Hawks win and remain perfect at home (7-0). I realize that the Hawks will probably not remain perfect at home. After all, that is near impossible to do in the NBA, but for one more night the Hawks are perfect at Philips Arena and the streak is intact.
