What the Hawks Learned Out West

As the Atlanta Hawks come back east after playing out west against the Lakers, Sacramento and Portland some things are becoming clear about this team:
1. The Hawks can not play with the Lakers. The good news is that not many teams can.

2. Wins against Portland and Sacramento were comeback wins. Portland is a good team and Sacramento is still struggling, but the Hawks need to put away teams early because comeback wins are tough to do every night.

3. The Hawks turned the ball over 16 times to Sacramento’s 7. A stat like that might mean loss in the NBA, but Sacramento’s recent troubles meant a win for Atlanta. Unfortunately, the Hawks can’t have a turnover rate like that against Orlando, Boston, Cleveland and other elite teams and expect a win.

4. Mike Woodson is using his bench so the starters can rest. The second unit can actually hold their own with Crawford and Zaza leading the way. In fact, Crawford played more minutes than all the starters except for Joe Johnson in the Sacramento game.

So as the hawks come back east, they’ve got some work to do, but overall this is a very strong and capable team.
